WHAT THIS IS ABOUT

Control of access to arterial and collector roads is highly desirable. These roads are designed for mobility or the movement of high traffic volumes in a rapid, comfortable, and safe manner. Allowing unrestricted driveway cuts for adjacent properties is sure to result in congestion and safety problems. Nationwide, uncontrolled access is a leading cause of the premature obsolescence of arterials and collectors. Yet, many roadway agencies find it difficult to recognize this problem, and elected officials are reluctant to restrict access to property from public streets. This course defines the issues and problems surrounding access management and describes options and practices for controlling access.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is designed for transportation planners, engineers, and public officials who are responsible for the design and approval of roadway access for new commercial and residential development.
