WHAT THIS IS ABOUT
Excavation cave-ins are a major source of injuries and fatalities within the construction industry. Each year, approximately 75-100 workers will die in trench collapses, and approximately 11 times that number will be seriously injured. With a fatality rate that is 112% higher then that of general construction, excavation worker deaths comprise approximately 1% of ALL worker fatalities in the United States each year. This workshop will discuss causes of trench collapse, and more importantly, how to prevent worker deaths or injuries from these events. The workshop will also feature discussion of fatal trench collapses which have occurred in Tennessee, focusing on the causes of the incidents, and the challenges faced during rescue and recovery operations.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is recommended for underground construction personnel, supervisors, construction safety managers, public utility personnel and first responders.
