WHAT THIS IS ABOUT

This workshop focuses on the materials, construction details, and maintenance practices that help extend the service of life of asphalt pavements. Demonstration of proper and improper maintenance techniques is discussed. Ample time will be allowed to address questions on specific maintenance issues. The workshop will include discussions on:

  • Pavement evaluation to determine the types and causes of pavement distress
  • Procedures, equipment, and materials for effective asphalt patching and utility repair
  • Design, specifications, and construction quality control of asphalt overlays

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The workshop will be of value to street maintenance supervisors, construction inspectors, engineering technicians, maintenance crew leaders, and street maintenance workers.

INSTRUCTOR

Donald Reid, Right-of-Way Manager
Mr. Reid is the Right-of-Way Manager for the Public Works Department of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County, Tennessee. He holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee State University, and has extensive background in researching emerging techniques and materials for use in long-term pavement management efforts. Mr. Reid's experience prior to Metro Nashville includes 16 years with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), eight of those in Traffic Engineering and eight in Pavement Management. While he was at TDOT, Mr. Reid implemented a computerized Pavement Management System and managed TDOT's Strategic Highway Research Program.

REGISTRATION

The registration fee is $120 per person. A city or county employee is eligible for a TTAP scholarship registration fee of $45. TDOT employees must register through their local TDOT Training Office. The workshop fee includes ONLY materials and coffee breaks. NO LUNCH PROVIDED A course may be canceled if there is low enrollment. Forty-eight hours notice will be given to registrants if a course is canceled. Register early! Limited enrollment!
