WHAT THIS IS ABOUT

This FREE 3 hour educational session is available through a grant from FHWA's Accelerating Safety Activities Program (ASAP).

It will provide information on the use of the Leading Pedestrian Interval in locations where crosswalk pedestrian traffic conflicts with right-turning vehicular traffic. Furthermore, the session will provide informational material on the importance of proper timing of Clearance Intervals including the Yellow Change Interval and Red Clearance Interval.

Attendees will receive printed material with essential information on the presented Signalized Intersection Safety countermeasures.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This educational session is suitable for local and state transportation officials, consulting engineers, traffic signal practitioners, including traffic signal contractors and technicians.

INSTRUCTOR

Airton G. Kohls, Ph.D.
Dr. Kohls is a Research Associate at the University of Tennessee's Center for Transportation Research. He holds a B.S., M.S. and a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He has twelve years of practical experience in Traffic Engineering with both public and private agencies. Dr. Kohls serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the University of Tennessee, Department of Civil Engineering, teaching Traffic Engineering Operations.
