WHAT THIS IS ABOUT
This course provides electrical safety awareness for personnel working in storm-damaged and disaster response environments where energized systems may be exposed, damaged, or unstable. Participants learn to recognize and avoid electrical hazards following natural disasters. Emphasis is placed on maintaining safe distances, protecting the public, coordinating with utility providers, and avoiding unauthorized entry into electrical facilities or confined spaces. The course reinforces situational awareness, defensive decision-making, and life-saving precautions to prevent electrocution, fires, and secondary hazards during emergency response and recovery operations.
INSTRUCTOR
Aaron Gillespie
Aaron brings extensive experience in municipal and industrial emergency response, with a strong focus on training public sector and frontline personnel. He delivers training in hazardous materials, safety, and emergency response and conducts audits for manufacturers, first responders, public works, and healthcare organizations. Aaron’s background includes leadership and operational roles as a Lieutenant/Training Officer, Firefighter/AEMT, Hazardous Materials Technician, and Safe Work Permit Coordinator, providing him with real-world insight into high-risk environments.
He holds Fire Officer II and Fire Instructor certifications, as well as two bachelor’s degrees: one in Biological Sciences, with a minor in Emergency and Disaster Relief Response Management, and one in Information Technology. Aaron’s instruction blends practical field experience, regulatory knowledge, and adult learning principles to deliver relevant, actionable training that supports responder safety and operational readiness.
