WHAT THIS IS ABOUT
Overview of Local Roads Safety Plans is one of the Planning & Engineering Modules in the Road Safety Champion Program. Local Road Safety Plans (LRSPs) are proven to save lives on rural roads. They offer a foundation for consensus and focus that helps communities take proactive steps to reduce and prevent severe crashes in their communities. This training will provide an overview of an LRSP, including how they support safety efforts, the steps to develop an LRSP, and the strategies for implementing an LRSP in rural communities.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The primary target audience for this module is transportation, public health, and first responder personnel who have an interest in roadway safety but are not safety experts and are taking part in the Road Safety Champion Program.
INSTRUCTOR
Todd Morrison, P.E
Todd Morrison is a Technology Transfer Engineer with the University of Kentucky and a road safety advocate. In addition, for the past sixteen years he has worked for numerous Local Technical Assistance Programs. He has taught over 1000 workshops and trained over 30000 individuals. He retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet after serving in the Divisions of Construction, Maintenance and Traffic. Todd served for two years as Kentucky’s Safety Circuit Rider helping local agencies identify low-cost improvements to reduce crashes. He also served for two years as a Road Safety Subject Matter Expert for the Tribal Technical Assistance Program. Todd is an ATSSA certified Traffic Control Supervisor, Flagging Instructor, and Traffic Control Design Specialist. He is also a Certified Public Manager and NHI certified instructor.
