Guidelines for Construction, Maintenance, Utility, and Incident Operations

The application diagrams shown in this booklet represent minimum requirements for typical situations. They are not intended as substitutes for engineering judgment and should be altered to fit the conditions of a particular site, keeping in mind that all traffic control devices used must be in compliance with Part 6 of the MUTCD. Under the authority granted by Tennessee Code Annotated 54-5-108(b), the Tennessee Department of Transportation has adopted the MUTCD to govern the design and location of signs, signals, markings, and for posting of traffic regulations on or along all streets and highways in Tennessee.

Training

TTAP routinely offers training that addresses the topics presented in the Work Zone Safety flipbook. If your staff requires work zone traffic control or flagger training, please view our course calendar to see a listing of scheduled classes. TTAP can also schedule on-site training to suit your schedule.

If you are located outside Tennessee, your state’s Local Technical Assistance Program center may offer similar training. Find your LTAP center here.
