WHAT THIS IS ABOUT

Local agencies throughout the country have experienced the need for clarification on interpreting MUTCD language. This session will provide relevant information based on Frequently Asked Questions received by the FHWA MUTCD team that will educate participants on the correct application of MUTCD standards and guidelines for traffic signals. Furthermore, general status on the 11th Edition of the MUTCD will be provided.

INSTRUCTOR

Duane H. Thomas
Mr. Thomas is a graduate of the University of Kentucky's Civil Engineering program and is a licensed professional engineer in Kentucky. Duane worked for 22 years with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, serving four years as Director of the Division of Traffic Operations. He worked for ten years in the Kentucky Division Office of the Federal Highway Administration where he served as an area engineer and managed the Division's Major Projects. In 2018, Mr. Thomas joined the FHWA Resource Center's Operations Technical Services Team, specializing in Work Zone Traffic Control Management. Mr. Thomas is also a member of FHWA's MUTCD Team with responsibility for Highway Traffic Signals and Traffic Control for Railroad and Light Rail Transit Grade Crossings. He has also served as a member of FHWA's Complete Streets Working Group.
